Youtube to Archive Project - Central States Region version

Goals of the Project
lower barriers to archiving digital media
complement centers' existing practice
increase number of centers that archive their video
give policy makers visibility into the scope and size of diverse activities of access centers/PEG stations
make the ephemeral permanent

two parts to the project:
catalog & generate statistics on access center/PEG station use of Youtube and Vimeo
archive the metadata and video from Youtube/Vimeo to Internet Archive

currently in the cataloging phase
first large scale tests of the concept - 28,000 Youtube videos uploaded to the Community Media Archive

statistics will be free, archiving will probably be a fee based service
"we'll do the archiving, you improve the metadata"
Jenn Ramsay, Northampton Community TV adds a "tags:" line in youtube description
that can be mapped to archive.org subject/keywords fields

the Community Media Archive will remain a free "Do It Yourself" archive effort
shoutout to Citicable for getting Cincinnati's government access channel
established on the Community Media Archive and continuing to upload
